I use this stitch a lot, for granny squares and filet crochet projects, so I have used it extensively. As indicated above double crochet in the US version is the same stitch as the treble crochet in the UK version and it looks something like this:
Double Crochet (US) / Treble Crochet (UK) | Deborah Mason
Before you start you would need to form a slip knot and work the required number of chain stitches as the base for your Single Crochet (US) / Double Crochet (UK).
Step 1: Wrap the yarn around the hook and insert the hook into the front loop on the next chain stitch.
Step 2: Wrap the yarn around your hook (at the back of the work) and pull the yarn through.
Step 3: Wrap the yarn around the hook again and pull the yarn through the next two loops on the hook.
Step 5: wrap the yarn around the hook again and pull the yarn through the remaining two loops on the hook.
Sometimes watching someone do it is easier to absorb than static images and written instructions.
