Baby Lovey Blanket

So I made a Rainbow Unicorn Lovey and really liked the blanket colours so I decided to crochet a larger baby lovey blanket to match the unicorn lovey. 

To make the lovey I used 4 Seasons Printed Marvel 8 Ply Yarn Baby 1 for the centre, Carnival 8 Ply Acrylic Yarn in Pink and White for the contrasting colours.  I also used a little bit of  4 Seasons Marvel 8 Ply Yarn in black for the eyes and 4 Seasons Marvel 8 Ply Yarn in Lemon Sorbet for the horn.  I didn't keep track of the amount of each yarn I used as I already had those balls of yarn on hand.

When the Lovey was finished I decided that the style of the blanket using the print yarn and alternating stripes would be perfect for a larger blanket so I starting working on a new blanket.

Materials Used for my Baby Lovey Blanket

• 350gm 4 Seasons Printed Marvel 8 Ply Yarn Baby 1
• 200gm Carnival 8 Ply Acrylic Yarn in White
• 50gm Carnival 8 Ply Acrylic Yarn in Pink
• 50gm 4 Seasons Marvel 8 Ply Yarn in Mint
• 50gm 4 Seasons Marvel 8 Ply Yarn in Cloud (blue)
• 50gm 4 Seasons Marvel 8 Ply Yarn in Lemon Sorbet

• 1 x 4.00mm crochet hook
• 1 x knitters sewing needle

The Marvel yarns are available from Spotlight stores and the Carnival is from BigW.  The total cost for the yarn I used for this blanket was around $30.00.

The stitches/techniques you need to master to complete this or a similar lovey include:

• magic ring
• half double crochet (us)
• double crochet (us)
• slip stitches
• chain stitches

The pattern starts the same way as for the 10 pointed loveys.  The centre in done using the print yarn, you continue in the pattern set in round xx until you have 8 dcs on both sides of each point. Then you work in a stripe pattern starting on round 11 as follows:

• 2 rounds in white
• 1 round in contrast 1 (pink)
• 2 rounds in print yarn
• 1 round in white
• 2 rounds in print yarn
• 1 round in contrast 1 (pink)

From round 21:

• 2 rounds in white
• 1 round in contrast 2 (mint)
• 2 rounds in print yarn
• 1 round in white
• 2 rounds in print yarn
• 1 round in contrast 2 (mint)

From round 30:

• 2 rounds in white
• 1 round in contrast 3 (cloud)
• 2 rounds in print yarn
• 1 round in white
• 2 rounds in print yarn
• 1 round in contrast 3 (cloud)

From round 39:

• 2 rounds in white
• 1 round in contrast 4 (lemon sorbet)
• 2 rounds in print yarn
• 1 round in white
• 2 rounds in print yarn
• 1 round in contrast 4 (lemon sorbet)

The size of the finished blanket will depend on your tension as you work, my tension is reasonably tight so my blanket is approximately 148cm round - each point is around 74cm from the centre of the blanket to the outside edge. 

Center:

Make a magic ring:

Round 1: ch2 (counts as 1 st), 9hdc in magic ring, sl st on top of ch2 (10)

Round 2: ch2 (counts as 1 st), dc in same st you sl st, 2dc in next 9 sts, sl st on top of ch2 (20)

Round 3: ch3 (counts as 1 st), 2dc in same st you sl st, sk next st, *3dc in next st, sk next st* repeat from * to * 8 more times, sl st on top of ch3 (30)

Round 4: sl st in next 2 sts, sl st in between dc sp, ch3 (counts as 1 st), dc, ch2, 2dc in between dc sp, sk next 3 sts, *2dc, ch2, 2dc in between dc sp, sk next 3 sts* repeat from * to * 8 more times, sl st on top of ch3 (40)

Banket body:

Round 5-47: sl st in next st, ch3 (counts as 1 st), *1 dc in each dc to next ch sp, 2dc, 2 ch 2 dc in ch sp, dc in each st to last dc on side of point, sk 2 dc, rep from * to end of round  sl st into next st.
